The project partners aim at recruiting a total of 30 – 45 youngsters, aged 15 – 28 years old, who will serve as the Youth Advisory Committees of the project management team. The role of the local Advisory Committees is to provide advice and feedback to the respective partners on all project activities, from the portal development and the selection of thematic areas to the organization of workshops and trainings, to ensure that the project is relevant to the actual needs and interests of young people. The Committee members, who are actually the main target group of the project, are also serving as multipliers by informing their peers about the website and other activities of the project, and by promoting the project objectives. In addition, they are seeking connections with International and European networks, especially those promoting activism and active citizenship. The Foundation of Social and Political Studies (FSPS) and NGO Support Centre (NGO-SC) coordinates the Cypriot Youth Advisory Committee (10-15 youth) and AVANZZA and DICOCOM coordinate 10 – 15 youth each, who form the Spanish and the Italian Youth Advisory Committees respectively. In the case of Cyprus, FSPS was responsible for the recruitment of Greek Cypriot youngsters and the NGO-SC was responsible for the recruitment of Turkish-Cypriot youngsters. The opportunity for participation in the Youth Advisory Committee had been ‘advertised’ through the mailing lists of the partners, through invitations/ letters to schools, universities, youth clubs and youth organizations. The members of the local Youth Advisory Committees meet every two months, with each meeting having a pre-defined agenda as follows: Introduction to the project and to Activism
Towards the end of the project three members of each local Youth Advisory Committee will have the opportunity to travel to Netherlands, where the International Child Development Initiatives (ICDI) will provide relevant workshops and bring the youth in contact with civil society organizations and youth activist groups in the Netherlands. Potential workshop themes include “Effective use of the new media for youth participation”, “Social research with young people”, “Developing effective PR strategies”, and other topics as identified by the Youth Advisory Committees. ICDI will arrange exchange visits to Dutch organizations such as “Cool Politics”, “Dutch Youth Council”, “Ministry of Culture, Welfare and Sport”, “United Network Of Young Peacebuilders”, “Dutch Youth Institute” and others.
